The Multiplayer Group - Game Artist Brief
Task : Create a character based on these prompts
- Steampunk Cowboy
- Evil Princess
- Alien Chef (Chosen option)
I chose alien chef as I really want to this academic year lean more into creature design as thats a huge pleasure of mine and has so many opportunities for unique designs. Furthermore, one of my favourite animals is squirrels since I spend a good portion of my free time feeding them down the park so I have gained an admiration for these little furry critters so I used them as the main inspiration for my alien chef. Additionally, I noticed I am really bad at drawing plus sized anatomy so really wanted to try make all my thumbnails and eventual final design a very chunky squirrel inspired Alien.

For my moodboard I tried drawing inspiration from animals, body types and childhood media such as Skylanders Swap Force and Treasure Planet which both explore animals being humanised in different ways which I thought would help broaden my mind to new perspectives during this project.

Showcased above our the first 4 thumbnails exploring the concept of a squirrel mutant alien idea. The tentacles were a big point of interest for me as I thought with Squid being able to move each tentacle independently with their own thought process this would work excellently for a chef and especially if he accidently hurts himself his tentacle will reproduce. My favourite from these designs are number 2 I think it finds the perfect balance between squirrel and squid/octopus and achieves a good heavy build like I wanted.
Attached below are concepts regarding crustacean & Arachnid body structure to explore more animal inspiration for extraterrestrial life-forms because I just felt for a cook that's alien the concept of having more than the average number of limbs would be a very distinct and important feature of this alien and help add character to them and not feel so rigid. Furthermore, my favourite from these was the 2nd thumbnails body I think it is just nice short and stubby which means if he was in a kitchen he could move around more easily compared to the more lobster body or huge spider body.
