Capstone - Quietus: Through The Cracks

Image
Quietus : through the cracks This concept idea is my final year project that aims to conceptualise the characterisation of death throughout cultures and fantasy in all senses. However, there is a twist the goal is also to study the toys to life genre and seeing why it disappeared and how could it be brought back better in a fresh form to begin a new life cycle of trial and error. However, for more information on what Quietus actually is I shall explain Quietus is an adventure game that allows you to explore the underworld using character cards that the player can scan using a device which will allow you to use different Keepers which are all different depictions of the death throughout the world’s diverse range of religions and cultures. Furthermore, Keepers use an elemental class system similar to other card games like for example ; Pokémon or Digimon and these elements decide how achievable levels will be and how much of the story you discover for example, if you enter an ...

Multiplayer Player Group - Creating UI for a racing game

Image
Jameson Tyler - Creating UI for a car Game Introduction: Briefing I was asked by the multiplayer Player Group to create iterations of a UI design following a mood board for a car racing game. I decided to base the overall theme on Ancient Greece and its mythology because I realised that most racing games especially rally-based ones choose real life locations which means they are always the same. So Ancient Greece would spice up the genre I believe leaning into the mythology aspect for inspiration. Additionally, The references used for these concepts were from the client's mood board and Rocket League using the UI game database which is an online archive of UI used within multiple games ranging from indie to AAA games. Furthermore, I did two iterations of potential scenes going for different moods and approaches to layout to try and break out of getting too comfortable with one design and viewing things from a new perspective. The content Provided by Multiplayer Player Group: UI Des...

Emerging Technology : 3D Printing Blog

3D printing : Exploring 3D Printing as an Emerging Tech Hero Forge is an online character customization service that allows you to kitbash your own character for 3D printing using a wide array of premade assets. This service is particularly popular among enthusiasts of tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, as it enables users to create highly personalized miniatures that can be brought to life in their campaigns. Intrigued by the possibilities, I decided to explore Hero Forge by creating a figure of the 11th Doctor from the sci-fi television series "Doctor Who." The platform provided a plethora of customization options, including various facial features, hairstyles, clothing, and accessories, which allowed me to closely replicate the iconic look of the 11th Doctor. I was able to choose his distinctive tweed jacket, bow tie, and even his signature Sonic Screwdriver. The detailed design process was intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to adjust and refine each aspec...

The Multiplayer Group - Game Artist Brief

Task : Create a character based on these prompts Steampunk Cowboy Evil Princess Alien Chef (Chosen option) I chose alien chef as I really want to this academic year lean more into creature design as thats a huge pleasure of mine and has so many opportunities for unique designs. Furthermore, one of my favourite animals is squirrels since I spend a good portion of my free time feeding them down the park so I have gained an admiration for these little furry critters so I used them as the main inspiration for my alien chef. Additionally, I noticed I am really bad at drawing plus sized anatomy so really wanted to try make all my thumbnails and eventual final design a very chunky squirrel inspired Alien. For my moodboard I tried drawing inspiration from animals, body types and childhood media such as Skylanders Swap Force and Treasure Planet which both explore animals being humanised in different ways which I thought would help broaden my mind to new perspectives during this project. Showcas...

Week 1: Create a robot from an allocated Abbreviation "RVSP" The task was to create a robot from the abbreviation RVSP which is for the french saying "répondez s'il vous plaît" which means please reply. The words that were chosen were "Royal Village Sorting Platoon" which are a platoon of postage robots commissioned by the royal French Embassy and serve the function of replacing post-men and being able to deliver digital and physical messages more securely as well as provide vital information to local residents. Week 2: Learn how to create Perspective grid in Photoshop The lesson learnt was the correct resolution for art its usually 72PPI for standard art as that is the resolution most screens can handle however if you intend to make a high quality pr...

The Multiplayer Group - Concept Art Brief

Image
Introduction: Create a stylised 3D environment from concept art  Greetings, I am Jameson a 3D artist and I was asked by Multiplayer Player Group to make this environment within 3.5k polys. Here is my process of translating concept art into a 3D game asset and the full process of hand painting textures to achieve a stylised finished result. Additionally, the software I used throughout this process will be Blender for the entire modelling process and then Autodesk Maya for UV unwrapping and to finish of Maxon Zbrush for my High Poly Sculpt to use for baking within Adobe Substance Painter. Concept Art: Blocking Out:  To Begin you must start looking for shapes ranging from small to large and try to figure out what will the player see more in detail and what will they not see as much as this will dictate where the distribution of polys must be executed. In the images below you can see today's progress the biggest key objects of the scene have been placed down as a foundation to blo...
